Writing Pad User Guide
Everything you need to know about getting the most out of Writing Pad.
1. Managing Pages & Tabs
- Add a New Page: Click the New button on the top toolbar to create a fresh blank sheet.
- Switching Pages: Click any page tab above the notepad. Active pages are highlighted with genuine yellow paper styling.
- Naming Pages: Type into the top title bar. The title updates the tab name in real time. If left blank, it defaults to "Page 1", "Page 2", etc.
- Tearing Out a Page (Delete): To prevent accidental loss, deleting requires two taps. Click Tear out, then click again when the button shows "Sure?" to confirm.
2. Fonts & Reading Comfort
- Handwriting vs. Typewriter: Tap the Font button to switch between warm cursive handwriting (Caveat) and retro mechanical typewriter monospace (Special Elite).
- Theme Toggle: Tap the moon/sun button to switch between bright parchment and ambient dark desk mode. Writing Pad also automatically respects your system's light/dark setting.
3. Exporting Your Notes
Click the Download button on the toolbar to export:
- PDF (.pdf): Generates an A4 formatted document. Latin text compiles directly in browser; international scripts (such as Urdu or Arabic) automatically launch the native system Print to PDF dialog to preserve perfect ligatures.
- Markdown (.md): Formatted with a top H1 header title and raw markdown body.
- Plain Text (.txt): Universal clean text export.
4. Sharing Notes Securely
- Click Share to create a private link.
- The note is compressed into the URL hash fragment. Anyone opening the link sees a read-only preview and can click "Keep a copy" to duplicate the note into their own local notepad.
- Notes over 5,000 characters cannot fit into URL length limits; use the Download feature for long essays.
5. Keyboard Shortcuts
- Escape: Closes any active modal dialog (Share, Download, or Alerts).
- Tab / Shift + Tab: Navigate through toolbar buttons and the main writing area.
